Clothing Tips for Motorcycle touring. Reviews

Motorcycle touring is a wonderful, exhilarating way to travel with breathtaking views and a healthy dose of adrenaline. When riding a motorcycle for extended periods of time, you should be dressing for comfort as well as safety. Does this Spark an idea?

Pants
While riding a motorcycle can be relaxing, it is also dangerous. In the event of an accident, clothes and your helmet are the only things protecting your body from the road. The pipes on either side of the motorcycle become very hot as well, creating the potential for burns. You should always have on long, somewhat tight fitting pants when riding. To increase comfort, choose pants with some stretch and a waistband that does not pinch. Also, avoid wearing light colors. Dark pants will mask the grit that may fly off of the road.

Jackets
In the event you hit the ground in an accident, you want to protect your arms from bit of gravel and pavement. You should always wear a jacket. Long sleeves will cover your arms, but cotton fabrics are not strong enough to protect you from "road rash", the term used to describe what happens when tiny pieces of gravel are embedded into your skin during a fall.

In the winter you should always wear a leather jacket, for warmth as well as protection. A leather jacket may prove too hot in warmer climates, but many motorcycle apparel companies make summer jackets, made of thick twill or neoprene with vents that allow for airflow and cooling.

Shoes
You should wear supportive tennis shoes or a pair of boots when riding. Boots should be leather and should at least cover your ankle. A small heel is beneficial as well, allowing your feet to rest more comfortably on the pegs of the bike. Your pants should be tucked into your boots or shoes to prevent them from being caught in the bike.
